We are at that time of year again when the evenings are beginning to get lighter and with that in mind I thought it would be a good idea to get organised with the Pony Club Efficiency Tests for 2012.
Some of you may already be familiar with Tests, but for those of you who aren’t the tests are an excellent way to improve your knowledge, care and riding of your horses and ponies. You can work your way up through a series of exams starting at E test and up to the A test. The exams include two sections – the horse and pony care (stable management) and riding. I am planning to run C test training which takes place over 6 evening sessions, to be held at my yard in Burwell. The C test training is open to any member who is 11 years and over and has access to a suitable pony that they are able to take the exam on. The training will include one riding session, which covers what you may be asked to do in the exam and will also give you points that you may need to go away and work on. The riding session will be organised during a weekend (date to be confirmed). The care section covers a variety of subjects which include:
- Feeding and watering
- Grooming
- Shoeing
- Fitting tack, rugs and a tail bandage
- Health and well-being
- Loading and unloading
Training will commence on Thursday 26th April 6pm – 8pm and will take place every Thursday for six weeks, the final training session taking place on the 31st May. The cost of the course is £76 and includes 6 x evening sessions, 1 x riding session and the exam. The exam will take place shortly after the course ends, but the date for this will be confirmed at a later date.
